I’m such a tease. I was teaching you patience.

There I was in my last post announcing that you’d be waiting at least a week before hearing from me again when all along I had a post coming out today. Surprise!

This is the decoy post, the real post is hanging out over at the gorgeous Perfection Pending where the hilarious and beautiful Meredith keeps house. Have you been to her house before? If not, then you need to go. Well, you need to go to read my post, but then you need to stay and poke around. She has nice things. Seriously.

My post, funnily enough, is about how I found my imperfect patience and as a result changed from a mostly screaming banshee to a mostly calm mummy (ahem I said mostly)See how that ties in with how I was keeping you patient? Do you like that? I’m tricky sometimes.

Thanks for going over there to check it out. Me love you long time.

Mummy’s been in time out and she likes it, likes it, yes she does.

Hi blogging world!

How goes it? I’ve missed you all terribly but I have also really loved my little hiatus. It has given me the head space I needed to think a few things through and figure out what to do with business ideas and blogging and the fact that 24 hours in any given day doesn’t seem to be enough.

I basically figured out that when it came to blogging I was constantly compromising on my posts. I have a bunch of things I really want to write about but all require research and research takes time and I just feel I don’t have it. So in the end I’d sacrifice the research piece for something I can post in less than hour and while sometimes this was good and it was fun, I was never really reaching the goal I had in my own mind.

So, where to from here? Continue reading

We interrupt this program to bring you a special message

THE SPECIAL MESSAGE

So it’s like this lovelies, I am taking a wee break. There are lots of things going on here at the moment. There’s a business idea floating around and I’m doing lots of reading and learning to see if I can make it and some other ideas work and sadly,  I am fresh out of time for anything else.

Turns out that while I can multi task, 7,537 tasks is actually about one task too many.

It makes me sad as I love my blogging but it is only a wee break. After only 2 weeks I’ll be back to regale you with my nonsense.

See you for my next post on 4 March.

Where’s my freaking Valentine?

Heart pic found at park

Thought I’d rock out this old chestnut again. Seems appropriate!

I love Valentine’s Day. I really do. I KNOW it’s a Hallmark holiday. I get it. I don’t care.

It’s all mushy hearts and flowers and even though I practice being a tough bitch on the outside, I am really quite romantic and sensitive on the inside. I want the flowers at work; the romantic dinner; the box of chocolates; the serenading at my window (not by you creepy weird guy); the blah blah vomit blah. Continue reading

Let me show you my NOW

Quote

So before we get into this post let us discuss a few things.

First of all, this post has been inspired by the Daily Post prompt today (that’s twice this week – CRAZY) so that’s what it is all about. I am supposed to write entirely in the present tense so let’s hope I’ve achieved that and haven’t made a boo boo. I’m a linguist (or so my degree says) so it’s going to suck if I fuck it up.

Second, I’m no poet. The last time I wrote a poem was about 25 years ago and it was probably better than this but I’ve had a crack at it because as soon as I read the prompt I thought POEM and who I am to resist the creative urgings of my soul. So here it is. Be kind. I hope it makes you smile.  Continue reading

Wearing someone else’s shoes even when they give you blisters

Today I’m trying something NEW and participating in the Daily Post’s Weekly Writing Challenge. This week’s challenge is Leave your shoes at the door.

I could have used a little more of this pre baby

In my BC (before children) life I was what can only be described as a right little Miss Judgy McJudgy Pants.

If you didn’t know the difference between “your and you’re” and “there, their and they’re” I turned my my nose up in disgust.

Uneducated bogan I’d sniff. Continue reading

A bit of verbal diarrhea straight from the heart

Me just doing the LIFE thing.

Me just doing the LIFE thing.

How many posts actually use the word diarrhea in their header and get read do you think? Can’t be that many. It’s hardly enticing. But it aptly explains where I feel this post is going to go. Nowhere. But I’m going to take awhile about getting there. It’s the scenic route.

Some of my more regular readers will probably have noticed that I haven’t been around so much lately. I have had so much on that I’m struggling to find the time to think straight, let alone write. This post from Rose, one of my favourite bloggers, really nails how I feel right now. Specifically she says: Continue reading

Photo Fables – the story behind the picture

Click me to read the photo fable.

Click me to read the photo fable.

I think this is one of the loveliest things a stranger has ever done for me. I recently followed the FortunateArtist blog as I thought this idea of Photo Fables sounded really cool. Then all of a sudden an email appeared in my inbox from the lovely Finn saying how she’d love to write a fable for me. I don’t know how she finds the time and keeps up with them all but I’m so glad she does as the result is AMAZING.  Please head over to Finn’s website and check out her work. Her About page is beautifully written and tells the story of how Photo Fables began.

So this is the photo I sent her. I told her no background at all (she prefers it that way). Interestingly the fable was more accurate to the truth than you could imagine. The photo was taken at Angkor Wat in Cambodia in 2008 where I spent most the year. I had been aching to get back to this country after a visit in 2004. I wanted to spend more time there and do something to help its most wonderful people. I have been back visiting a number of times since and to this day my heart aches for it just a little. It is my other “home” in the world and I think this fable perfectly captures that. Click on the pic to zoom over and read the gorgeous fable. PLEASE. Finn’s efforts deserve a viewing.

I won that damn blog competition so now I’M PUBLISHED!

Holy moly, I don’t believe it. I won. I won. I won. I won. I won.

If you’ve been following my blog you may recall that I submitted a post to iVillage.com.au last week for their iBlog Friday comp. Well it seems I won the damn thing. Wowsers.

Thrilled doesn’t begin to describe how I feel. Ecstatic? Yeah that’s closer. Bewildered? Yup that’s pretty close too. That will do. I’m ecstatically bewildered that the post I entered in the iBlog Friday comp on iVillage.com.au last week won.

Saying I won sounds a bit fancy as it makes it sound like there were a thousand entrants and I came first out of them all. It wasn’t quite like that. There were 11 entrants. All of them have beautiful blogs and were quite stiff competition for a newbie like me. Not only that but my work was judged by writers. Real writers. Ones that get paid to write as their job. They get paid for their writing and they picked me. So I am very proud of this result.

So what did I win? Continue reading
