Week 2 – Couch to 5k

Week 2 

Week two involves 5 min warm up walk, then 90 secs running, 2 mins brisk walk, repeated 6 times. Ends with a 5 min cool down.

Stats exclude warm up and cool down (total 10 mins).

Day 1 

Overall pace: 9.1 kph

Overall distance: 2.89 km

Time: 19:00

Fastest interval: 13.1 kph

Longest interval: 0.33 km

I was pleasantly surprised by today’s run and am very happy with these stats.

Day 2 

Overall pace: 9.0 kph

Overall distance: 2.85 km

Time: 19:00

Fastest interval: 13.1 kph

Longest interval: 0.33 km

A dip in stats and another really inconsistent run. There were quite a few 0.29 km intervals today where I had none on the last run (min on the last run was 0.30). It might seem an insignificant difference but I guess it’s just a personal goal I’m trying to stick to. Last week I ran an average of 100m per 30 secs so want to try to keep that up as a bare minimum for each interval. 0.29 km doesn’t achieve that.

Day 3 

Overall pace: 9.1 kph

Overall distance: 2.89 km

Time: 19:00

Fastest interval: 13.1 kph

Longest interval: 0.33 km

Today’s run felt much better. It felt much more consistent than the last one. I think it wasn’t helped by the fact that I ran two days in a row. Sometimes that is going to need to happen as working around childcare etc makes it that way. I was nervous thinking that next week I’d have to run for 3 mins each time but it doesn’t work quite like that. It’s a more gentle increase and I’m looking forward to it.
